Christmas back east

This year, or I guess I should say last year (weird), we got to spend Christmas back east  with Nick's family.  And it was very generous of his parents to buy tickets for us all to come out there.  Tristan was the cheapest, haha, since he got to sit on our laps for the plane rides.

We got to Virginia on the 21st in the afternoon.  We had been up for hours!  I spent the day before packing everyone's things (Nick's, Tristan's and myself) and then just ended up staying up all night getting things done.  We left for the airport around 4:30, and skipped through security in the "traveling with small children" line.  Score for Tristan!  Funny story?  So I had a blender in my carry on and a Boost.  Hmm, which did security find a threat?  The Boost.....go figure.  So there went my breakfast into the trash.  Ah well.  The plane ride wasn't terrible, minus the awful  take off.  I hate taking off out of Salt Lake, always so fast and bumpy.  Tristan didn't care for it much either, he screamed until we got to cruising altitude.  Then he slept all the way to landing.  Not bad at all!

The first part of our trip, Wednesday to Sunday, we stayed with Nick's dad and stepmom.  Thursday we hung out around the house relaxing with his dad's parents.  And then Friday, we went to his mom's wedding reception, and spent that whole day in Leesburg walking around antique shops.  It was a ton of fun.  I got to take a lot of pictures with my film camera, and a fair amount turned out decently.  Then because we hadn't done any of our Christmas shopping, we spent until 3 AM at walmart finishing that.....yeah, not terribly wise.  We got home and since Tristan had slept most of it, he was awake until 6 in the morning, crazy kid!

Christmas Eve we exchanged gifts with Nick's dad's side of the family, and Nick and I scrambled to finish his grandma's necklace before that started.  It was fun making that together.  Then we had a nice crab and shrimp dinner, well, they all did, I had PF Changs.  Christmas morning we went to church, before heading off to spend the rest of the time with Nick's mom and her side of the family.  We were very busy until we left!  We had another family gift exchange, and Tristan made out like a bandit.  Then we had dinner and it was soo tasty!  Ham and turkey and stuffing and potatoes, mmm my favorite.  The rest of the evening was nice and relaxing, we played a couple games, watched a cooking show or two and then went to bed.  Poor Tristan was soo exhausted, he slept all the way through the night and took two long naps the following day.  We ran the poor kid into the ground!

Monday we spent with his mom, just kind of hanging around the house.  Tuesday we went to his brother's, Chris and his wife Eryn and their three boys.  We had lunch, played games, watched shows, learned how to play craps.  Wednesday we went to breakfast with Nick's uncle Randy, Tristan just adores him.  Then we had lunch with his grammy and Aunt Michelle, and then spent the rest of the day with grammy playing games.  I lost, haha, but it was still fun.  Thursday we got all packed up and then had brunch with Nick's dad and Diane.  Before we left, his mom dyed my hair red, hehe and it looks amazing.  The last thing was once we got to the airport and got through security super fast, our flight got delayed by 3 hours, so we got to chill for a while.  And a bird was trapped in the terminal and kept flying over our heads.

So overall, we had a really great trip.  It was wonderful to see all the family, to have them spend time with Tristan, and how much fun he had with everyone.  All the family was very generous in housing us, and feeding us, and all the gifts, especially for Tristan.  He loves all his new toys.  They keep him well occupied, haha and mommy loves that.  But really, Christmas is all about love and family, and I'm glad we all go to spend it together.
