Just a few more weeks

In just a few short weeks, we will have a one year old.

That is so insane!

I can't believe this time last year I was in the hospital worried about having to have an emergency c-section.  Good thing it was nothing and Tristan came when he was supposed to.....well, not quite like he was supposed to, silly kid.  Ah well, nothing like a huge ugly red scar to make you feel powerful and dangerous.

This last year I have learned a lot of things.  Now, I didn't say I perfected them, just became better acquainted with them.  Like sleep deprivation, patience, lack of personal time, sweet potatoes and other various food items ground into my carpets.....to name a few.

The doosy of the week was yesterday, when Tristan and I drove to Sandy for his 5th physical therapy post botox.  He screamed the whole way there, it was not ok.  Then, he screamed the whole way back.  Keep in mind there is a lot of construction on the freeway, so it was a looooooong drive.  I broke it up by stopping at Kid to Kid and Walmart to get him some things, but the minute he got back into his car-seat, the tears came.  I fed him, gave him his sippy cup, changed his diaper.  He just did not want to be buckled up.  When we got home, I could take it no more, and put him promptly into his crib, where he fell right to sleep for the next few hours.

And when he woke up, and Nick went to get him, and started to change his diaper...........I heard exclamations of disgust over the baby monitor.  I was making bread, but went to see what was going on with my dough covered fingers.  Tristan had poohed the mother of all poohs, and it was cemented to his little butt and back.  It's because he slept for 3 and a half hours and those darn cruiser diapers dry everything out.....so we had to take him to the shower and hose him down before giving him a bath because wipies did nothing.  Yeah, not one of our more pleasant experiences, but meh, I guess it's only going to get better.  We decided he will be potty trained ASAP!!!!

But still, it's been a lot of fun.  We always get excited when he learns something new, or tries a new food, or his latest, making motocycle noises with his mouth.  That one is dang cute.  It really is fun to be a parent, and at the end of the day, when Tristan wraps his arms around my neck and slobbers on my face, I couldn't be happier.
